Skype is a software that can make free video calls and we can physically see and talk to people. It uses voice over internet protocol (VOIP) technology to communicate. Infact, One can skype with people in same room or a different continent all free only with internet connection.
We used skype to discuss our digital story project. Apart from the benefit of a free call, I realized the additional benefit of sharing files while discussing over the call was extremely useful. This made our discussion more fruitful and conclusive since we could share and refer to material during the call.
While we were talking I realized that a fast broadband Internet connection is critical for the conversation to have no play backs and stalling of videos. There was a loss of quality in sound and video since the broadband connection in my house was not of very high speed. It is therefore advised to use a good high speed broadband connection for good video quality calls on skype.
Since this is a popular medium of calling, people with children should be aware just like in any online chatrooms, one must ensure that children remain under supervision while making internet video calls through skype.
Ultimately, we ended up skyping our group members for any small thing we wanted to discuss! So,to Skype it is for us!
